If you’ve ever walked into a night shift feeling exhausted before it even started, you’re not alone.
Night shift nursing can be rewarding, but it can also be incredibly hard on your body, your sleep, and your mental health.
Between the rotating schedules, emotional intensity of patient care, and trying to live in a world designed for daytime hours, it’s easy to feel like you’re constantly playing catch-up with life.
That’s why I created shift.gently.
This space is dedicated to helping nurses navigate shift work in a way that protects their energy, their health, and their sanity.
Not with hustle culture.
Not with toxic productivity.
But with gentleness.
Why I Started shift.gently
After nearly 10 years of working night shift as a nurse, I realized something:
Most advice for healthcare workers focuses on surviving the job, not caring for the person doing it.
We’re trained to take care of everyone else first.
But rarely do we talk about:
- The exhaustion after three night shifts in a row
- The strange loneliness of being awake when the rest of the world is asleep
- The emotional weight of caring for critically ill patients
- The difficulty of maintaining routines when your schedule flips constantly
shift.gently exists to make space for those conversations.
